Pulse: Part 01

So this thing happened down here in Orlando early in the morning on June 12, 2016. I’m still processing it. I’ve raged on my Facebook feed. I’ve cried. And I’ve talked to friends. But I wanted to respond with my writing, but how?

Then I wondered how my characters would respond. So I started writing. This is the story of how the folks in Bennett Bay responded to this horror. I’ll be posting the scenes as I finish them, so they are rather rough. I’m not sure what I’ll do with the finished story. It may just live here on the blog.

Please feel free to comment here about your feelings about this story and/or this event.

Pax,
Stephen

This story references characters and situations from “Slay me,” said the dragon, Dark Love, and Return to Cooter Crossing.

Pulse: Today We Are All Orlando
Part 01

Yanko frowned at the spreadsheet on his laptop. He hated inventory reports and two in the morning probably wasn’t the best time to do them. He leaned back and unconsciously twirled his engagement ring on his finger, rubbing his thumb over the black schorl stone. It was a Reinhold family heirloom his husband Dieter gave him as an engagement ring. “Something’s not right.” He looked around the dark office. It felt like it was closing in on him. The air was thick, like he was trying to breath water. He stood up. Unease seeping through his body like cold. This felt familiar. Something like when Max got the news about Flora May passing. But it was different—further away and more horrendous.

“Get a grip,” he said. “Need some fresh air and make an appearance at last call.” Continue reading “Pulse: Part 01”

“Dark Love” is Out! New Novel from Stephen del Mar

Love and family, the two things Dieter wants most are slipping away. His uncle, the man who raised him as a father, is dead. Now his brother can’t wait to bulldoze and sell the family farm. Yet Dieter clutches at the memories of the past, fighting to hold them close. What Dieter doesn’t know is the past can be present and what is dead doesn’t always stay dead. He discovers that Dark Loves wants to live in the light.

“Dark Love” is a paranormal romance set in Stephen del Mar’s Bennett Bay region of Florida. There are witches, faeries, bears, twinks, a dragon drive by, and one very determined fag hag. Once again del Mar gives us the rich texture of his Florida setting that goes from the bayside tourist town of Bennett Bay to the backwater country hamlet of Live Oak. Remember, things are not always what they seem and be careful what you do under the light of the full moon!

Yeah, my new novel is finally out. If you like it please leave a review on Amazon. Thanks!Zon buy3._V192207739_

“Slay me,” said the dragon. A new short story.

"Slay me, said the dragon" cover image“Slay me,” said the dragon.

About a month ago, a friend on Facebook shared a photo. It was a rather idyllic shot of the Scottish Highland but I thought, “You know, looks kind of boring. Needs dragons or maybe a disco.”

Then my mind went to work. What if it was a disco for dragons, well really a leather bar that played 70s disco because dragons like those mirrored balls. And what if a twink walked into the leather bar that was really a dragon den. And what if he was really a dragon slayer. I started playing with the idea of “slaying” as a metaphor for the erotic exchange of power, in a tongue-in-cheek kind of way.

Anyway, that’s how this story started. My friends say it was good enough to turn loose. So here it is.  I made it free this weekend on Amazon, so enjoy!  Let me know what you think.

HIM is a short psychosexual horror story about madness, delusion and murder. Intended for mature readers only

HIM
HIM

Well I just released HIM out into the wild. It is a very different kind of story for me, pretty dark. It was interesting trying to get into the head of someone having a psychotic break; that sense of obsession and everything having a meaning that is about you. I think it is a good read but not for everyone. There is murder and rape, not graphic but it happens. Let me know what you think.

HIM: Imagine taking the bus home at the end of a cold winter day. The bus is full of all kinds of people with all kinds of problems. And as one slowly descends into madness he notices you. Would you notice before it is too late?

HIM is a short psychosexual horror story about madness, delusion and murder. Intended for mature readers only.

Free for download at Smashwords. (epub & Kindle)

Have it sent to your Kindle at Amazon. (99 cents at the moment but may be free if they price match.)

Free This Weekend: The Demise of Bobby & Clyde

The Demise of Bobby & Clyde
The Demise of Bobby & Clyde

My short ghost story, The Demise of Bobby & Clyde, is free this weekend on Amazon.com. Bobby & Clyde are lovers and bank robbers and they’ve made a few mistakes. First they robbed a bank in the middle of a hurricane and next, they decided to hide out the most thoroughly evil and haunted house in Big Cypress County. Not a happy ending, but there is a lot of ever after. Hope you enjoy it.
