Zach has a broken heart. He moved down to Florida to retire, restore a boat, and get over the death of his husband. However, restoring a boat is easier than mending a broken heart. He finds the dark waters of the Big Cypress River run deep and you can find family, home, and new love in unlikely places. Of course, a bit of vodou and the nudge of a ghost can always move things along. The Broken Heart is part of Stephen del Mar’s Stories from Bennett Bay collection.
For those of you who enjoyed “The Three of Us,” this story tells how Zach and Detective Stan Wolf meet.
Well my story “The Three of Us” just went live for the Love Has No Boundaries Stories! It’s for the Goodreads M/M Romance group. You can read it here. You need to be part of the group to read it there. Or you can download an epub version here. And it is now on Smashwords if you want a Kindle version. Let me know how you like it. If you like it, please take a moment and give it a review.
I just submitted my story for the Goodreads M/M Romance Group “Love Has No Boundaries” Story Event. It’s a great social site for folks that like stories about boys who like boys. There are around 10,000 members so it is pretty active. This year over 150 stories are being submitted. They will start being published in June, so sign-up for the group and you can have a lot of fun Man on Man stories to read over the summer. I’ll have my story posted here about a month after it is released on the group. Membership does have its privileges. Below is an excerpt from the story. Let me know if you like it.
People were starting to yell out their car windows. Randy said, “Okay, I’ve got to get off this bridge. I’ll call the cops.”
He looked right at me. “Don’t do anything stupid.” He put the bike in gear.
“Ask for Detective Stan Wolf. He knows us.”
Randy nodded as he pulled away.
I turned and looked down to the water. It really wasn’t that far down. But then, most people probably hadn’t done high diving. I’d gone off the ten meter platform a few times just to show the divers I wasn’t a pussy. But I didn’t know how deep it was. If Jeff survived the fall, what would have happened? What was the tide like here? How fast was the creek? I thought of Jeff’s hard little body getting swept out into the bay. I looked out at the wide expanse of dark water. The bridge was over the mouth of the creek. It formed a little inlet. A rock breakwater ran along the north bank out into the bay. The gulls were circling and fussing at the end. Something white and black moved on one of the larger rocks down by the water.
It was a person. A person was laying on the rock. I looked at the wall of tumbled rocks. There was no walk out that far. No way to get to the point except by a boat or…
I started taking off my clothes. At least I was wearing boxers today. I started breathing heavy to get as much oxygen into my blood as possible. I looked over the railing. There was just a bit of a ledge. It was enough. I wasn’t a good enough diver to be on the diving squad, but I could do it, and I was a damn good swimmer. Actually, I was the best in the state.
I climbed up on the railing. I heard cars honking and screeching to a halt. I lowered myself onto the ledge. Took a few more breaths, and stepped out into nothingness.
Well I’ve been writing like a madman the last few weeks, that’s mostly a good thing. The bad thing is I’m behind in my real life job. But hey the clients really don’t need their websites and videos done right now do they?
I cranked the sort story “The Envelope” and put it up on Smashwords for kicks. It’s really my first thing “published.” Which is kind of weird because it was just a throw-away piece. I just wanted to see if I could crank out a story in one day. I’m a pretty slow writer and the 3,500 words really consumed a whole day. But it was pretty damn rewarding to get something done and out to the public. So far 123 people have downloaded it. Hopefully a good number of those liked it. Someone even left a 4 star review!
